Capriccio in 2 acts.
"King Lear" on stage Lviv Les Kurbas Academic Theater is the third take on this play by director Ovlyakuli Hodzhakuli, a citizen of Turkmenistan by birth and a citizen of the world by passport. Characteristic of this famous Central Asian director's oeuvre is his work on the borders between various cultures. In this play, the producer has combined Western European dramaturgy, his own eastern meditative sense of the dramatic material and the abilities of the Eastern European acting school of the Les Kurbas Theatre.
"King Lear", as staged by Ovlyakuli Hodzhakuli, is a contrary adaptation; a capriccio based on Shakespeare's tragedy.* This is a story of illness and recovery, full of moral decline and painful epiphany for two violent life and subsequently crushed elders and Gloucester Lear.
