The video film "The D.I.Y. Way" formed during the members' studies at the Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia, as well as during work on the video magazine VIDIOT.
Students from the first class to graduate Kirill Preobrazhenky's first video art workshop proposed to shoot an experimental full-length film as their collective thesis work. The film is inspired by motifs from the texts of the art group "Medhermaneutics Inspection" (S. Anufriev and P. Pepershteyn), on which original script is based.
"The D.I.Y. Way" is an original attempt at a collective comprehension of the Moscow art scene various phenomena over the last thirty years. These include children's literature and illustration, the school of Moscow conceptualism, socialist art, radical performance, Moscow Actionism, psychedelic poetry and electronic club culture. The film is the result of an unusual creative experiment, during which the group of young artists tried to free themselves from traditional practices and stereotypes of "big movie" production. In the creative process, the members of the film crew abandoned the conventional distribution of professional functions and the production hierarchy, becoming a research group, the members of which maintained a closed internet blog throughout the six months they worked on the film.
